29 April 1845 Friend, McLean, Greetings to you there. I remember your opposition to me when the majority stood with you to furnish them with the money. Friend, don't waste time writing the name of my tribe, but think of me. Tomorrow you should see the people of that tribe, and there could be many people [assembling] before you tomorrow. But because of the problems with Hone Heke's behaviour, some people may not attend. We, all the people here, say that Hone Heke should be put to death, he is a bad man. Soon you will hear the decision about Waiwakaiho; Waiwakaiho is mine alone. I have listened to Ngatata and Matangi, but the majority have no holdings at Waiwakaiho; [the land] is my own, it is from my ancestor. That's all, the end.
