5 August 1850 Friend, McLean, Greetings. This is our message for you to hear. We have heard from the man who spoke to you in Wellington, Hetaraka, and this is the reason we write to you. We think that the people below have the right, but Takerei is right in that it is his own land. We say that the boundary for Tawhaitara is at Whaikaramarama and on to Mokau. There are some of us there also, and they will point out the boundaries - Paora Te Ririwhakaupa and Te Waka, and others are at Waikawau - Te Hemara, Hakaraia, Tohikore, Te Kirirewharewha, Kahukupenga, Wataroa, Hoani Te Rau, Rawhenata Pukuhora. However, it is for all the people to divide it for Te Pakaru, Ngatapa, Taonui, Poutoma, Te Waru, Hikuroa, Te Watarauihi and Te Waitere . . . [illegible].
