My dear Miss Obedient I intended to have come home early from Mr Kelham's that I might go up to see how Mamma was as Papa told me yesterday that she was not at all well but we did not get away till 1/2 past 12 and then I had to see the charming Miss Lewis home to her poor dear cockatoos and parrots. We had a quiet pleasant evening. Miss Dorset and her father was there. It is really most imprudent in ladies to go out in such weather in evening parties at the risk of losing their health for life. I thought of your folly in going to Mrs Kelham's ball and I feel very glad we did not go to the Sharpe's as I am certain you would not be in any way improved by doing so. Probably I shall go up with Papa this evening if I am not delayed in any other way. Your aff. Donald McLean Thursday morning Do not keep the boy too long pet as you always do.
