[Incomplete letter] 9 January 1873 Maraekakaho My dear brother I received your letter of the 17 December and one of the first and was glad to hear you were down in time that Saturday that you growled so much about people being so late at the station to secure the 10/ shilling land and I think it is well spoted and much pleased that you have altered the 640 acres at the back to one hundred in each place as the land in front would be more looked affter and allso more valuable and all the land and frontage on the Manganuka was bought before Weber has not made his appearance as yet but before he comes I intend to have a cruise through the far run that you did not go through and if there is aney more land wanted I shall let you know but I do not think aney more is required. We had very hot weather hear since you left. I have not felt it so hot hear before but we had plenty of grass except in the padocks. The sheep had plenty of water on the run but short in the padocks but plenty at present. We had a heavey fall of rain for the last three days. Cleared up for fine weather today. I have not seen much of the natives since you left but they seem to be all right. I am going tomorrow to the bridge to se old Paul and the rest. I went to Omahu to se the great feast. They sent for me and saw Nou Renata and our Pakowhai friends. He asked was I angry. I told him I did not know what he was taulking about. I said I was not angry and he seemed to be in good humour. Their was to maney people came and I left in halfe an hour's time. McDougald has fenced a place at the head of Spur Nairn. I was on the line twice. Their could be no mistake their but where is the next part of the fence to be is what I want to know. Will it come halfe round the Whakapiro on both sides if so it will make a mess. However it will not be fenced for some time. I will not let McDougald fence when he likes. I wanted the fence long ago and he or Kinross would not fence then. If they agree to a proper line let the work be done. I could say a great deal more about this matter and Kinross but I shall leave it till my next [incomplete letter]
