Turanga 24th. July 1865. Donald McLean Esq. My dear Sir, I enclose for your information, an account of proceedings at a Hau Hau meeting held yesterday. I send the original, as given me by a native. You will perceive our difficulties are thickening. Hemi Putopu is a brother of Paratene Potiti. I shall advise the Government party to postpone the erection of the Pa at Turanga. till, on your arrival we may decide on the best course to proceed. We are now in such a sad minority, it will be well not to a collision, until we are better prepared. Very faithfully (Signed) J.W. Harris.
