New Plymouth June 10th. 1850. Dear McLean, I hope you have been able to secure the brads, and have by this time distributed them among the natives, for I should be sorry if any circumstances should arise to prevent you fulfilling your promise to them. I am glad you have mentioned Tamati Walker; and can tell you that I entirely approve of his now being taken in the Police Force, as he has been buoyed up with the expectation of entering it for some time past; and a disappointed man always becomes discontented and dangerous, Mr. Halse spoke to Mr. Stewart in reference to Tamati sharing his salary with him, but he would not consent. But why not discharge Newsham at once - for Government are now paying him for attending to his private affairs, which is first cousin to a robbing. I suppose Mr. Halse will inform you about Stewart's case. The natives dispute his right to clear one section that he is at work upon, but he says the Governor gave him leave. Newsmam has taken Miss Honeyfield to Honeymoon Cottage, where we wish them all happiness. A very good match. I enclose a note for William, which please give him; and we shall be happy to see young Bulkely with him. You must excuse this short epistle, for it is so cold. I can scarcely feel my pen. Yours truly (Signed) Henry King. To:- Donald McLean Esq. Wanganui if not there to be forwarded
