Dear McLean, I hope you have been able to secure the brads, and have by this time distributed them among the natives, for I should be sorry if any circumstances should arise to prevent you fulfilling your promise to them. I am glad you have mentioned Tamati Walker; and can tell you that I entirely approve of his now being taken in the Police Force, as he has been buoyed up with the expectation of entering it for some time past; and a disappointed man always becomes discontented and dangerous, Mr. Halse spoke to Mr. Stewart in reference to Tamati sharing his salary with him, but he would not consent.
