New Plymouth 2nd. Feb, 1872. Dear McLean, I omitted to mention a suggestion that I have to make, to get over the difficulty of the Pariaka opposition to the Telegraph wires. Somewhere about Te Kurukoatu, I think just south of it, there is a sand hill rise near the beach which can be seen from the peak above Kaitake, and is seen from the latter, a mile or two nearer might be got, but then the sand hill would make a background so it I think; carry on the wires to a station at the sand hill and erect a Semaphore there, on Kaitake, and on Marsland Hill, and in fine weather the Telegraph could work night or day. Kaitake is about 10 miles from Marsland Hill, and about 20 miles from the Kurukoatu. Yours truly, Chas. Brown.
