Kaipara 13th Novr. 1865 My dear Sir, I received your letter on Saturday last with the 2nd of Exchange for £500 on the Union Bank Auckland, Thisplaces me in an independant position and I feel a corresponding amount of jollity thereat. Old Keene who has just now left me roaring (you know what a voice he's got) when I told him you said in a letter that I was becoming more cross as I got old, a fact which some of them here have ocular demonstration of occasionally - I am very anxious to go to Napier to see you and shall be glad to try my hand at a Court. I propose to bring Keene and one or two of your old acquaintances with me - The £100 can remain until I see you I shall bring all the papers connected with our money matters with me when I go to Napier and deliver them over to you. In the meantime this will be a receipt for the £500 I am off to try and stop a row at Hokianga. Always yours, J. Rogan. P. S.
