Letter from John Rogan, to Donald McLean, dated 20th. December 1852. New Plymouth. 20th. December 1852. My dear Sir, Mr. Cooper has mentioned to me that you wished to know what I am doing; as you thought I might be employed at the South. Since the Mokau trip, I have been living in town; and make, occasionally, plans for Deeds; and do a little private surveying,- sufficient to pay my expenses. The Bush section I have disposed of; and am therefore at liberty to leave Taranaki on a very short notice. I have a great wish to see the Ahuriri country; and become a stock owner there, eventually; if I could obtain employment for a time; which, with the proceeds of the farm, I might be able to accomplish. There appears no prospect of work at Mokau; as Mr. Cooper tells me that the present offer of land there will not be accepted; and the natives are not likely, I should think, to part with land on both sides of the river,- at least for some considerable time. I had an idea of going to the diggings; but shall wait here till I hear from you; if you will be so good as to favor me with a line, at your convenience I remain, my dear Sir, Yours faithfully, (Signed) John Rogan. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
