THE SHIP MEROPE.

The following is the captain's report of the voyage .- — " The Merope left Gravesend on the 9fcb Jane, afc 3 p.m., with a light easterly, wind ; landed the^pilbt at the Isle of Wighti .■it St. Catherine's' Eoint at noon on the 11th' June ; was two miles south of the Start Point at 5 a.m. next day, and had southerly •winds to the 15th ; Jiine. then northerly to the latitude of Madeira, which was passed on the 21st Jane, thence light N.E. trade winds to lat. 13deg. N.,.when the wind shifted to flic fc».W. for twenty-four hours, shifting then to the : E., which wind lasted to Int. 7deg. N. ; passed in sight of St. Antonio on the 26th June ; crossed the Equator at midnight on July. , sth, in long. 27deg. r'iimin. W. ; had. good S.E. trades to lat. 25deg. S. ; passed to the windward of the Kland of Trinidad on the 12th July at noon ; thence to the meridian of the Cape, which was passed at midnight on the 24th July, in Lit. 40deg. S., southerly and S.W. winds. -From the Cape to long; 'sdeg. E. experienced moderate westerly and Rnu'-west winds, and then for eight days a strong westerly gale to long. I37deg. E.; after that had a day's calm and light easterly wind, thence to the meridian of Tasmania, which was passed on August 17 in lat. 48deg. .".••rain. S.; had S.W: and N.W. winds, and from that until sighting the south end of, Stewart's Island ;on>the 20th, had strong *N.W. winds. Coining up the coast, experienced variable winds !and calms to arrival as jiitove." It will be seen by the above that tins vessel has m%de, one of the fastest passages that have been accomplished for some time.
