HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

Mr. F. Marsh *t.t, presided a* the meeting of the Executive Committee of the recently- Horticultural Society. It jras resolved to hold the show on th© Wednesday preceding the fall moon in March. As 125 members have been enrolled at, a snoscription of 5s each, it was decided that the funds •would permit of £30 being allotted in prize-money, in addition to the special prizes. The committee decided that the schedule should include cut flowers, pot plants, vegetables, farm produce, fruit, home industries, painting and photography, school competitions, children's classes, and bouquet lections. She was being driven to the ' factory in the milk cart, when one of J the cans lifted with a jolt of the cart and came down on the little one's bare feet, cutting off one of the toes. She was taken to the hospital at Hamilton. The local branch of St. John Ambulance Association has had a busy month making up. bandages, garments, and a host of sundry article? for the soldier lads. Able assistance in this work ,has been rendered by the ladies of Matamata, Tiran, Walton, and Tatua. During August the branch sent away for the Provincial Sick and Wounded Fund £23 2s 2d foT comforts and £1 19s 9d for material.

Mr. J. Gaddis recentlv lost one of his stallions, valued at £150. The animal had appeared to be • quite well the day before, and was found dead in the morning.
