Wednesday, May 26. The Speaker took the chair at 5 o'clock. The following members were present — Messrs Montgomery, Lee, Jollie, Studholme, Buckley, Aynsley, J. S. Williams, Browu, Hornbrook, Potts, Buchanan, Macpherson, Hargreaves, Johnstone, Matson, Dixah, Moore, Kennaway, W. Williams; Hall, Bird ' Hillyard, Ormsby, Maskeii, Knight, Hawkes, Rhodes, Gray, Peacock, Delamain, Mullock, and Wilson. PAPERS. Mr Jollie laid the following papers on the table : — Correspondence between his Honor the Superintendent and S. Paterson, 0.8., relating to the safety of the Lyttelton and Christchurch tunnel. Return shewing the amount of the Waste Lands remaining unsold within a distance of ten miles on each side of the Great Southern Railway from Christchurch to the Rakaia. communication. The Speaker read a communication from his Honor the Superintendent intimating that Mr Garrick had resigned bis seat for Lhe City o! Christchurch. revenue apportionment committee. : Mr Montgomerry asked for a further extension of time till tc -morrow for bringing up ibe report of the committee. The request was granted. roads bill, 1369. The Council again resolved itself into committee on this bill. Progress was reported, with leave to sit again next day. Notices of motion were given, and the Council adjourned until 5 p.m. next day.
