OBITUARY.

(Special to Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mr James Bickerton Fisher, who died yesterday . al' te|r \i long illness, was the aecbnd son of the late Rev. T. F. Fisher. He was born at Diss, Norfolk, m 1843, and came with his father .and mother to Wellington, by' trie ship Myrtle" m 1857. On the removal of his parents [ to Canterbury he iVas entered ait (Christs College and completed ' his education there. He studied for the legal profession, and waß articled to the late W. P. Cowlishaw m 1863, being called to the bar by the late Mr Justice Gresson m 1868. Mr; Fisher went to Timaru, and practised his profession tliere for a brief period. Subsequently he removed to Westport, where he practised, and was ; appointed as Crown Prosecutor for Westland. He represented that district m the .Nelson Provincial. Council and m the House of Representatives. Returning to Christchurch m 1.882 he Commenced the. practise of his profession on his own account. In the following year he was admitted i as a partner m the firm of Garrick and Cowlishaw,* and ori the death of the late F. J. Garrick and the retirement of the late W. P. Cowlishaw he became senior partner of the firm, remainin therein until January 1 of this year when he rein"!. After the retirement ■of the late W. P. Cowlishaw, Mr Eisher became City Solicitor, and had held tluit office ever since. He leaves a widow, a son, , and two daughters. A nephew, Mr Oswald Burns, and a niece, Miss Ethel Burns, are residents of Gisborne.
