HONOURED BY FRANCE
AUCKLAND CITIZENS
By decree dated April 2, 1938, the French Government has been pleased to confer the Cross of Chevalier of the ;Legiori, of Honour on two well-known .citizens of Auckland, the Mayor,, Sir Ernest Davis, and Commander C. H. T. palmer, president of the Auckland .Navy League.
Sir Ernest Davis is well known as a friend of France, and he has taken every opportunity of showing his great affection for that country by his support of everything French and his never-failing courtesy to the French naval officers who periodically visit New Zealand.
, Commander Palmer, as president of the Auckland Navy League, is always to the fore, in preparing the programme •of entertainments , for the officers and ratings of the French men-of-war during their yearly cruise in New Zealand waters.
The French Government is pleased to be able thus to recognise the spirit of friendliness and good will\ shown towards France in these distant lands at the antipodes.
