T. York, vicar of Riccaron who conducted the service m the church and at the graveside. Mr \\ Tunn was at the organ, and at -ho conclusion of the service played tie -Dead March ' from saul. The .n----terment was in the eastern portion ot the churchyard, Sir Charles s gi « hf>inir alongside that ol las eldest daughter, the late Mrs R. J. Scott. The only other graves in this portion nt the churchyard are those of the Ven. Archdeacon Croasdaile Bowen and the Rev. C. S. Bowden, both tormer vicars of Riccarton. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by personal friends of the late Sir Charles Bowen. There were also floral 'tributes from the Earl and Cbuntess of Liverpool, Sir Jamos Allen, the Canterbury branch of the Educational Institute, the committee of the Upper Riccarton Red Cross, the officers and choir of St. Peter's, Riccarton, the New Zealand Shipping Co., and the Canterbury A. and P. Association. While tho funeral was in progress a muffled peal was rune from the Cathedral tower'by the Bellringers' Society. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Church to-morrow morning, at 11 o'clock. At the breaking-up of the Rangiora High School yesterday, a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the lato Sir Charles Bowen was carried in silence. At the Technical College prize-giving yesterday, Mr George Scott asked all present to riso and stand for a few minutes in silence, as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Sir Charles Bowen, tho honoured colonist who had done euch great work, and whoso funeral was even then taking place. . His request was forthwith complied with. Later, Mr George Witty, M.P., while addressing tho pupils, referred to tho death of Sir Charles Bowen, describing him «s one of the finest men with r«fc. {pird to education who had ever heen m New Zealand. He was really the foiinder of their educational system, for which they had so much to be thankful.
