THE MAORI ELECTIONS.
At noon yesterday at the St. Stephen's school MrH. W. Bishop, S.M., being the Returning Officer, there were four candidates nominated for the Southern Maori electorate, and the show of hands was as follows :—Teoti Pita Mutu 17, Tame Parata 17, Riki Te Mairaki Taiaroa 9, Tame Rangiwahia Erihana 6. A poll was demanded by Hone Paratene, the proposer of Mr Erihana, which takes place on the 19th, at twentythree polling places in the South Island. (press association telegrams.) NAPIER, December 3. Following are the nominations for the Eastern Maori electorate :—Wi Pere, Tare Mete, Maika Taruke. Taniati Tautuhi, Eriata Nopera. NEW PLYMOUTH, December 3. The nominations for the western Maori electorate took place to-day. Thirteen candidates were nominated, including Ropata Te Ao Wirihana, Hunia, Te Hohau Nikitirie, Ngarangi Katiha, Tepene Eketone, Hen ere Kaihau, Hohepa Horornana, Hone Omipi, Reha Aperahama, Wiremu Ngapaki, Te Kemana Nutana, Major Kemp and Te Rahue Karareke. A keen contest is expected.
