THE NOMINATION FOR THE SUPERINTENDENCY.
The nomination of candidates for the office of Superintendent of the Province took place in Dunedin on Saturday last. The attendance of Electors" was riot . very large. The.Returning Officer, Mr. Gillies having read the Writ, Mr. J. H. Barr proposed Mr. Thomas Dick. . ' ' ." ' Mr. James Kilgour seconded the nomination. '".'"' Mr. E : . B. Cargill proposed Mr. Henry Clapcott. : : Mr. T. M. Wilkinson seconded the' nomination. - . ■ Mr. W. W. Wilson proposed Mr. Edward M'Glashah,' and the" nomination was seconded by Mr. "John Crate I . ' Each of the candidates spoke at some length, but their speeches did not contain anything particularly worthy of remark or repetition. The'- show of hands was — Dick, 110; Clapcott 10 ; M'Glashan lso. Mr. Dick demanded a poll, which r will take place id] over the Province, at £lie .different polling booths, on August 4th* A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer concluded the proceedings, which were unusually quiet and dLudl for such an occasion. ; '.; .
