Mr. de la PERRELLE.

FORMER CABINET MINISTER. KEEN INTEREST IN RACING. (IJy Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. After a long period of indifferent health which occasioned Ms retirement from politics'as member for Awarua in August, the death occurred this morning of Mr. Philip A. de la Perrelle at the age of 02. Mr: de la Perrelle entered politics in 1021 and again in l!) 28, when lie was appointed a member of the late Sir Joseph Ward's Cabinet, holding the put tfolios of Internal Affairs and Tourist Resorts. At the end of 1931 he voluntarily relinquished Ministerial rank to permit the Coalition Government being formed.

- Mr. de la Ferrelle played a prominent part in the public life of Southland. He liad been a country newspaper proprietor since the age of 21. He purchased tlio "Lake Country Press" in 11)12 and the "Winton Record." He wa.< for some years a member of the Hospital Board and for many years a member, of the Education Board, of which he was cliairf man.

TTe was keenly interested in racing and trotting and as Minister of Internal Affairs lie inspected various courses in New Zealand with a view to improving the conditions. *

Mr. dc la Pcrrellc, who was born at Arro\vto\vn, was twice married. He is survived by his widow and three sons.
