GENERAL ELECTION.

| ACTIVITY IN ROTORUA. FOUR CANDIDATES. MANY VOTERS NOT ENROLLED. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Friday. There has been a decided quickening of the election pulse in Rotorua during the last week. There appears no doubt that Mr. E. Earle Vaile's supporters are determined that lie shall go to the poll, as an Independent Reformer, and it appears plain that the party line will remain cleariy marked, notwithstanding the coalition.

The failure of the Reformers to attend a meeting convened by the United party has convinced the Uniteds that they must go ahead with their own campaign.

The Country party candidate, Mr. D. R. F. Campbell, has made one public appearance in Rotorua, when he addressed a meeting on child welfare, but so far he has not announced his policy.

•The Labour party is the most aetivc so far. Mr. A. F. Moncur has spoken to well-attended meetings in a number of country centres and has a large programme mapped out ahead for the next fortnight.

Enrolment is being pushed aliead with considerable energy, but the number Avho have failed to register is* astonishing. Unemployment has brought a large number of new men into the electorate, and many of tliem are strongly under the impression that they can exereisc absentee votes in their old electorates notwithstanding the fact that they have established domicile by tlireo months' residence outside their old boundaries. Many refuse to believe that the absentee privilege cannot be exercised by them.
