In the tracery of this carved canoe-prow there are two stylised figures. The upper one may be distinguished by its paua-shell eyes. while the one beneath it is upside down. Each has the fingers of its hand in its mouth, in a conventional gesture the meaning of which is unknown. The lower figure has also a second hand.
