- Nautical Nonsense
Nautical Nonsense (or Shipboard Scandal) was a typewritten troopship magazine published at sea on board the USS Naos by the 30th Battalion on their way to New Caledonia at the end of May 1944 during World War II.
While this is a one-off publication, Nautical Nonsense is most likely a continuation of 30th Battalion publications HQ Highlights and Nissan Nonsense which both finished in May 1944.
Edited by W A (Bill) Gamble and featuring the cartoons of 30th Battalion artist J W (Jim) Yearbury, Nautical Nonsense also featured jokes, cartoons, songs and gossip.
It took eight days for the USS Naos to arrive in New Caledonia and upon their arrival in June 1944 the 30th Battalion started the new title Bonjour.
