- Bonjour (New Caledonia)
Bonjour was a weekly typewritten camp magazine published by the 30th Battalion between June and July 1944 in New Caledonia during World War II.
According to the first issue, publications by the 30th Battalion since being stationed in the Pacific were varied. While the first issue was published 17June 1944, Bonjour had incorporated previous title HQ Highlights and possibly Nissan Nonsense. While there were interruptions to publications by the 30th Battalion due to travelling, they had apparently ‘maintained the life of our paper for thirty-three weeks in the combat zone’ (17 June 1944: 1).
Edited by W A (Bill) Gamble, Bonjour featured jokes, especially focusing the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) who were also stationed in the Pacific at the time, songs and opinion pieces, surrounded by hand-drawn cartoons by Art Editor J W (Jim) Yearbury.
Bonjour appears to have only lasted for three issues, most likely due to the 30th Battalion starting to return home from the Pacific in July 1944.
