HE DID IT

“Lofty,” on leave in England decided to visit a relative who was living in a little township in the north. He boarded an express train but then discovered that it was not' scheduled to stop at that little town. This did not worry “Lofty.” When he reckoned he was getting close to the little town he put his head out of the window and looked ahead. Presently he sighted the little railway station about a mile ahead. He waited until the train was almost at the platform and then he pulled the communication cord and stopped the train. He alighted and was making off when the guard rushed along and demanded to know what was the matter. “There’s nothing wrong,” ‘Lofty’ told him. “I just wanted to get off the train here.”

“A smart Alick from Australia,” commented the guard. “Well, look here, old chap. You might be able to stop trains like that out in Australia, but you can’t do it here.”

“Don’t be silly,” replied ‘Lofty,’ walking away, “I’ve just done it.”
