Great Activity as Allies close in on Japan

The Japanese radio continues to report great activity, in its island chain of communications between Japan arm Formosa.

Reports of landings and land fighting are confused but there is still no confirmation nor denial from the Allies concerning this phase of operations. Admiral Nimitz’s task forces continue their heavy attacks by air and sea bomdardments which have now been going on for a week. From the reports it would appear as if there were some half-dozen task forces operating in this area including at least one British force. The battleship, King George V, and the aircraft carrier, Illustrious, are the only major units whose names have been mentioned. Heavy air raids have been made on Rangoon, Singapore, and Bankok. Japanese resistance on the Central Burma plain, near Mandalay is becoming more and more disorganised though resistance is fierce, at some points.
