DIS HLUSIONED. A Blue Story.

And so I said farewell to-my Ar- : my . comrades, I -was leaving behind ' y all the marching, all the trials tbm.t had caused me so much discomfort, I was going to be dressed up in a smartblue uniform with shining buttons® I . was not going to do any more dirty work,. ■. No mere fatigues, no more guard o?r shouldering rifles® I was tn be an airman. ’ . . . *. But how sadly .disillusioned I was, !I arrived .with others at an Air Force fetation, I; looked round' and .saw (hundreds of figures in blue , but brass buttons were conspicuous by their ab■Serice, .» The blue that I sow happen—, ed to be denims, and it. was bound to, be the "working dress of t»-e station [cleaner " • , / . They rushed me off to a horrible Ismel" 1 ing place ’which was the medical section/ '. They lined, me up with the others and there I had to. stand waiting and, watching a young chap with a vicious looking needle* I thought he was practising bayonet, fighting* He seemed to puncture us in*bevernl places;. 1 moved up the line till I. was from this horrible, place’. of . torture,. Suddenly ' someone yelled,.- A. form. dropped to the- ground, -Then another and yet another/. My knee.s..began to shake. My mind was in a- chaos. . Would 1 make a break for it, or would I ’stay? I decided on the latter because after all what were a few needle jabs by a new chum? I was go.ing to be HERO No,l * .. My turn came. |A prick' and a -'stinging sensation® .[’l’ve been stung", I. thought*: Then (another prick and a scratch,- -That [were they doing to me? Tas I a man or a pincushion? After it was over . I felt weak and sore, but soon cheered . A fbr-r. n sergeant /'Quick; march /. tc*the* "clothing store' for blues.” Now I . was .going to get my blue . un- ■ iform., ■ My heart was leaping ■-.with : sheer joy,’ It soon stopped leaping though when ; I* saw that we were getting my one dread. g Blue denims!-; I felt very downhearted but said to myself: ''This is only for a few days while they .sort things cut a bit"; The few days-happened to be weeks, , t did guard,' \did rifle drill* I did ( everything'but cook; My feet horned after days of drill, -and when ■they said "You can have some leave," I went to bed to console myself with . the thought that it . was just ; as well \T the war would not last for ever*
