New Zealanders In Great Britain MATCH WITH TERRITORIAL DIVISION (From the Official War Correspondent with the N.Z.E.F. in Great Britain.) EAST GRINSTEAD, November 4. In the main game of the Rugby football trials on Saturday, a New Zealand fifteen met the British Territorial Division, with which it has lately been sharing the defence of a forward area. The ground was heavy when the second spell was played, but the match provided great football. The division was led by Captain Peter Candler, England's stand-off half, and included also three international trialists. New Zealand won by seven points (a field goal and a try, both by Simpson, the Taranaki full-back), to three (a penalty goal). Except that Metega, the Maori half, was unavailable because of injuries, the New Zealand team was the selectors’ first choice for the time being. The team was: —Full-back, Private J. B. Simpson, Wellington Battalion; threequarters, Private J. R. O’Hearn, Auckland Battalion, Gunner J. J. Campbell, Fifth Field Regiment, Gunner R. A. Patterson, Fifth Field Regiment; fiveeighths, Lance-Corporal F. J. Newighbours, South Island Battalion Private M. Symons, Fifth Field Ambulance; halfback, Gunner I. G. Stirling, Fifth Field Regiment ; back of serum, Second-Lieu ant R. K. King, South Island Battalion , second row, Corporal W. J. Cooper, Maori Battalion, Lieutenant F. S. R. Thomson, South Island Battalion, Private J. McLean, Fifth Field Ambulance (skipper), Private G. R. Harrison, Maori Battalion; front row, Lieutenant H. O. CrawfordSmith, Fifth Field Regiment, Sergeant T. G. Fowler, Wellington Battalion, W. Johnston, Fifth Field Regiment. The St. Mary’s Hospital fixture has been postponed to November 30. On November 23 New Zealand is to plav Rosslyn Park Club.
