MAJOR D. E. BREMNER
HEADQUARTERS POST
Lately commandant of the district army school, Narrow Neck, Major D. E. Bremner, M.C., N.Z.S.C., who took over the past of general staff officer (first grade), at Northern Military District Headquarters, has had a distinguished military career. His appointment follows that of LieutenantColonel L. Potter, N.Z.S.C., to the command of the Central Field Force, with the temporary rank of colonel. Major Bremner is a graduate of Duntroon Military College, Canberra, which he attended in 1912, gaining his commission in 1914. In this year he joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, sailing with the Third Reinforcements, and served with the Otago Mounted Rifles at Gallipoli. When the 2nd Otago Battalion was formed in Egypt in 1916 he was appointed adjutant, and subsequently he was company commander. Later Major Bremner was appointed general staff officer (third grade), New Zealand Division, and was Bri- •: / '
gade Major, New Zealand Rifle Brigade ,to the end of the war. For gallantry on the Somme in September, 1916, he was awarded the Military Cross, and he was twice wounded, once on Gallipoli and once in France. After the war he attended the Staff College, Camberley, graduated P.S.C. in 1919, and, returning to New Zealand, was a member of the New Zealand Staff Corps until 1932, when he resigned. He took up sheep farming but rejoined the N.Z.S.C. in January, 1940. Another Auckland appointment is that of Captain J. L. Muir, M.C., N.Z.T.S., formerly an officer of the training cadre at Papakura, who has been made staff officer in charge of training at Papakura camp. Lieutenant A. M. Jordan, N.Z.S.C., at present adjutant of the Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles, has been appointed to Army Headquarters, Wellington.
