CONCERT AT TRENTHAM
Soldiers Enjoy Repertory's "Mexico no" Show .// - Members of the Wellington Repertory Theatre’s concert party motored out to Tentham on July 17, to give a performance to the . men -.stationed at the military camp. The' - programme, consisting of a variety of bright and topical numbers, was thoroughly enjoyed by a large gathering. The entertainment, which was entitled “Mexicario,” opened with "La Cucaracha,” the very attractive chorus being dressed in gay Spanish frocks. The entrance and antics of the "Toreador” and "Ferdinand the Bull” caused much amusement. . Another -’attractive number was.“lf you are in Love you’ll Waltz,” the chorus wearing georgette frocks of pastel shades, cream mantillas and carrying gold tinsel fans. Two of tjie ballet’s most popular numbers were “1908,” in which four girls and four boys in amusing costumes, showed the audience what fun it was to drive an automobile in “1908.” The finale, “British Empire,” was spectacular. Britannia was in the centre of the stage and John Bull, ! Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt and India were preceded by heralds, drummer boys and flag-bearers. The I song “There’ll always be an England” was sung. After a vote of thanks had been | passed to the concert party, the performers were entertained at a pleasant supper party in the officers’ mess. Those taking. part were: Misses Jean Gilmer, Jan Kelly, Valerie Dickie, Veri onica Smith, Moira Robertson, Ngaire. Horton, Leslie Jackson, Jessie Stroud,
Betty and Patricia Maddock, Margaret and Alison Armour, Margaret Thodey, Patricia Greenfield-Brown, Tiora Meadows, Margaret Arlow, Patricia Smith. Cecila Lutsky, Doreen Tyack, Ruth Skerman, Jean Croudace, Jean Abley, Doreen Dickinson and Mr. Maurice Gray. The producer was Mr. Eric Harrison ; ballet mistress, Miss Marjorie Vause ; wardrobe mistress. Miss Patricia' Gledhill; orchestra, Misses Irene Spidey, Ida Lockwood and Grace Vickers; stage manager, Mr; P. \V. Maddock: lights, Mr. Lindsay Arlow.
