Must Be Prepared

Many good people in this country seem to be anxious , not to offend the German people. Mr. Duff Cooper has been reproved for offending them. Yet he merely accepted a boast of Hitler’s. Hitler said that the German people were behind him. ' In other words, they follow him. They have no choice. This is surely so obvious as not to be offensive to anybody who can think. , , ' We hope that none of the . half-fighters and respecters of German feelings will get cross with Mr. Duff Cooper when again he .gives us plain truth—as he did recently when, he said that ‘"every single man and woman in this country must be prepared to give 100 per cent, of time and energy to the service of the country.” . • . We may be “only at the beginning x of this fearful war.” But it we want to shorten it, we must redouble our efforts. The alternative is annihilation for us.
