Sir Oliver Goonetilleke, (iovernor-deneral of Ceylon, in order to cut down the consumption of liquor increased the price of it. When the price was increased, the consumption dropped. In one instance drinking dropped by 75 per cent., and crime completely disappeared when prices were jumped to a point at which the people could not buy
