“Within the Veil"
Mrs. J. Laird, Remuera Union It is with deep regret we record the death of our President, Mrs. J. Laird. In the passing of Mrs. Laird, the Remuera Women’s Christian Temperance Union has lost a good and faithful leader and conscientious worker for the cause of Temperance. Loved by all, she was always an inspiration to our members, and to a mueh wider circle throughout the district, by her devotion to the welfare of the work of the W.C.T.U. Her wise counsel and deep spiritual life will ever be lovingly remembered. For five years Mrs. Laird was a member of the Maori Girls’ Hostel Committee, and for over forty years a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Now she 1 as gone on to receive the reward of a good and faithful servant, while the memory of her fragrant life will remain to challenge all who kmw her to a greater devotion to the cattle she cherished throughout her life. Mr*. V'. Heazlewood, South Dunedin Union The late Mrs. Heazlewood, of South Dunedin, will be remembered at the Invercargill Convention as our member who was over ninety years of age. At the time of her death on August 14th, Mrs. Heazlewood was a Vice-President of her Union, having been a past District President of Otago and a past President of South Dunedin Union Mrs. Heazlewood was also a member of the Onehunga Union. She was an ardent Church worker, and was a member of the Hillside Road Methodist Cfiurch for over 50 years, and throughout the years was an unfailing worker for the cause of Temperance.
