The Devotional Period
Reading: Romans 5:1-11. W.R. Hymnal: 32. As each year is left behind us, people HOPE that the New Year will be a better one, that Peace will be ushered in. There are some who trust in the United Nations to do this; some even in Communism; while others again hope in our British Empire with its high ideals of justice and mercy. But we know that the ONLY HOPE of Peace is in our Lord Jesus Christ. When He reigns, when He is admitted to every heart, when our rulers, leaders, and all in authority are willing lor His Will and wishes to be obeyed, then, and only then, will this world find real peace. He must triumph over evil. That may mean suffering, but justice is imperative Mercy comes in response to repentance and acknowledgement of wrong. We hope, and hope maketh not ashamed, because the Love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. We sorrow, but not as those without 1 ope. We mourn, but not without receiving comfort and strength. From fighting, comes victory!. From danger, springs bravery! From trials grow endurance! From trouble there comes forth courage!
The winds of adversity make us cling more tightly to the Rock of Ages. The New Year happenings will be uncertain, but there is alv'avs the certainty of Christ. Prayer
We love Thee, oh our Father God, for the love Thou didst reveal to us in giving Jesus Christ. In His strength and at His command we go forth to tell of Thy goodness. Equip us, we pray. Mak* our lives to be rays of sunshine in the dark places —signposts pointing to the true joy and happiness. Make us soldiers in Thy service, fighting wrong. Bless all those in need. In the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
