Pan-Pacific Women’s Association

We wish to remind our readers of the Conference to he held in Christchurch from the lltli to the 25th January, 1952. It is probable that delegates will he present from U.S.A. and Canada, Hawaii, India, Pakistan, Japan, Tahiti, the Philippines, Western Samoa, New Caledonia and Australia. The President and chairman, Miss Josephine Schain, lawyer and social worker of New York, has already left U.S.A. by freighter to \isit Pacific countries en route to New Zealand.

The leader of the American delegation, Mrs. Henry C. Fowler, attended a UNESCO Conference at Florence last year and already this year has been to conferences in Greece and Turkey. In Turkey she met women from the Arab States, Israel and Afghanistan, and after the Conference paid a visit to Israel, which she described as “a wonderful experiment in modern pioneering.” Papers are being prepared by specialists on the actual status of negro women in education, teaching, business and the professions generally. The Christchurch Locality Committee has been busy arranging for the accommodation of delegates in lecture halls and rooms for forums and discussion groups.

Any woman can join the P.P.W.A. as a private member for a subscription of five shillings per annum, and for this received the minutes, notices, etc. \ny woman can apply for a season tickt to the Conference for a subscription of one guinea. This will admit the ticket holder to all sessions, except those reserved for purely business meetings or solely for delegates. Application for season tickets should be addressed to: The Hon. Treasurer, Mrs. K. Moore, 24F, Portland Crescent, Wellington.

The theme of the Conference will be "The Pacific in Today's World” and will be considered under the headings Status of Women, Education, Economic Interdependence, Social Conditions and Political Unrest. The last session will be devoted to discussion on "Our Responsibility as Women in Relation to Social Conditions.”
