ALCOHOL AND FAMILY LIFE

"Alcohol is a disastrous, destructive force in the homes of millions, and it’s constantly eating away at family life. In all too many cases, it has caused the breakdown of marriage, has seriously affected the emotions of children, destroyed the bodies of men and women, and ruined the minds of many mothers and fathers. “It is one of the main causes of divorce. In its wake our children arc abused, neglected, abandoned, and brutally treated. Their little minds become disturbed, confused, and distorted as they live and groyv up in such unwholesome environments. “The figures and the tacts as seen by the judges of children’s and family courts, and by the judges of police courts throughout the nation, attest that intemperance is gnawing away and effectively destroying the fibre of a large segment of our social organisation. Renewed strength is needed in combating this cancer upon social living. So, therefore, we must continue to be alert to the value of education among children and adults alike. Reduce and eliminate exposures by legislation, and fight against advertising of alcoholic beverages, which has only one purpose, and that is, psychologically, to encourage and educate people to drink.” —Judge Donald E. Long.
