GIBBS, (Dominion Treasurer). CRADLE ROLL PARTY A successful Cradle Roll Party was held on Wednesday, August .10th, at Papanui, about 50 children and their mothers being present. Each child received a party hat and a bag of sweets. Dainty sprays were presented to the President, Mrs. Neville, and the Cradle Roll Superintendent, Mrs. Tillman. A programme of pianoforte duets, vocal solos, recitations, Highland dancing, and games for the children was much enjoyed, after which afternoon team was served. A stall of children’s wares and cakes was well patronised. OPOTIKI BAND OF HOFE ENCOURAGING YOUTH WORK The Opotiki Band • of Hope has just held its closing meeting for the 1950 series and the attendance and interest have been outstanding. All local ministers have helped, also Scouts and Guide management. This wonderful work is being carried on under the able leadership of Mrs. J. H. Thompson. The final meeting had a great programme from Rev. Carter and Sister Miller, Maori Missioners. About fifteen High School girls and boys presented a Maori Pageant and the Temperance and Gospel address was given by the Rev. Carter. The series concluded with this splendid evening. 30th Birthday Party OAMARU CELEBRATIONS August 14th was a gala day for the Oamaru Union, when its 30th birth-* day was celebrated. In taking the devotions, Mrs. Hiett spoke on Chiistian Inheritance. Among the visitors welcomed by the President, Mrs. Daniel, were the Mayor and Mayoress. Mr. and Mrs. Cooney, Rev. A. Marshall, Pastor Salisbury, Mrr.

I'. C. Hayman, and Mrs. Weston, I P., of Oxford. The hall was gay with spring flowers and floral sprays were presented to the Mayoress and to Mrs. Hiet*. White Bows were pinned on Mrs. Hiett, Mrs. Walker, 45 years a w r orkcr, and on six foundation members present. Representatives were present from all Church Guilds and two new’ members were gained. The Mayor expressed pleasure at being present to have the opportunity of thanking members for their work in various ways for the benefit of the town, and wished ns every success in the future. Rev. A. Marshall said the Health Department were advocating Health measures through pressure from the W.C.T.U., and our Temperance Films were educating the young people. Pastor Salisbury pointed out that the W.C.T.U. never went into recess, but continues to work for the benefit of others. £5 was donated from the meeting for the United Nations’ Appeal for assistance for the children. A musical programme, a Birthday Cake, and a dainty afternoon tea concluded a long to be remembered afternoon.
