KAIKORAI HONOURS A FOUNDATION MEMBER
\ very enjoyable and successful afternoon tea concert was held in the Kaikorai Presbyterian Church Hall on Saturday, June 28th. The room was tilled with members, friends, and members from Dunedin Central Union, North Hast Valley, Dunedin South, Mornington, Green Island, and Port Chalmers Unions. A good programme of musical ami elocutionary items was presented, and thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. Orr, the older! member, aged ga\e two recitations. The President, Mrs. Flett, spoke of Mi>> Dobson’s years of faithful ser\icc, during twenty-one of whiefi she W as an efficient secretary. She said that one could always depend on Miss Ifohson to have everything on hard Mr>. Hiett also spoke in appreciation of Miss Dobson’s loyal service to the Temperance ('arise; and pinned a Long Service Radge on her coat. \1 is> Dobson, in a few well-chosen thanked the Union for the honour bestowed upon her. She said her whole heart was in the work, and she would continue to attend the meetings as long as she was spated to do so. Mrs. Muir moved a vote of thanks which was carried by acclamation. Afternoon tea brought a very pleasant function to a close. TWENTY-SEVENTH BIRTHDAY PARTY AT RICCARTON On June 9th, Riccarton Union celebrated its twenty-seventh birthday; when the Hall was tilled to capacity with members and kindred organisations. Chrysanthemums were used for decoration. Mrs. Griffiths presided, and after the opening Devotions gave a short talk on “ Friendship.” The Bryndvvr (>lee Club entertained with recitations, solos, duets, trios and glees, and two one-act plays. Very enjoyable afternoon brought to a close with tea and the Benediction. CRADLE ROLL PARTY AT PAPANUI May 18th was the date of a very successful Cradle Roll Party held by the Papanui Union in the Methodist Sunday School which was 'decorated with flowers and streamers. Mrs. R. W. May son welcrmed the mothers and the 49 children who were present. Facli child received a paper hat and a hag of sweets. A special gift was presented to Natalie Reed, whose birthday was that day. Dainty sprays vvt re presented to the President, Secretary and C.R. Superintendent. An informal programme of songs, recitations, and pianoforte items was given by the children; and afternoon tea was served, the children sitting round kindergarten tables.
YOUTH GATHERING AT NELSON June 26th At the June Youth Gathering there was an attendance of about 00. The Presbyterian members were responsible for the arrangements, and Cyril Martin was in the chair. Mr. Jim Burroughs (Presbyterian B.C. Leader) gave a stimulating talk on “Light," showing how anything which comes between tts and (»od, our |>ower house, dims our light. He then pointed out that alcoholic liquor was a serious cause of such trouble. There was some bright singing, and a Bible (Jui*. conducted by Mrs. Tooitier, caused much interest. Tea provided by the members of the YV.C.T.U. was served hv Mesdatnes Gardiner and Kid son.
