A QUESTIONNAIRE ANSWERED 1. How many were there on the Trutt? — Six. 2. How many women? —None 3. How were the member* aeUcted? —Two nominated by Invercargill City Council; one by South Invercargill Council; three by the Minister for Justice. One of this number appointed by the Governor-General to be Chairman. 4. Are they highly reaper ted citizen*?—Those appointed by the City Council are. The Government nominated its own supporters, none of whom is a Temperance man. 5. How manp reatauranta sell liquor?—One. 6. What liquor do they #ell? — Whatever is asked for, beer, wine or spirits. 7. What do W.C.T.U. member* think of restaurant drinking? —They view’ it as a real menace. 8. Do any depots tell liquor in addition to the hotels? —Yes, there are several bottle stores; and this morning's paper contains an advertisement that two more are to be opened, both in residential area*. Two of the “hotels” are straight-out drinking places, being merely bars and lounges for drinking in. They are spoken of as the “pig-troughs.” 9. What do you think of Truat Control veraua “No Licenae"? —Well, what do you think of Liquor versus No Liquor? 10. Vorsua Private Enterpriae?— -ho far, no doubt Trust Control has been preferable to private enterprise—the old “pubs”; but we do not know where it will stop. The Trust has plans to spend an enormous sum on a “luxury” hotel for tourists. They are still awaiting the permit to build a "tavern" in North Invercargill, in the midst of a residential area. Where will they stop? 11. Any other remark*? —The provisions of the Licensing Act are not applicable to the Invercargill Licensing Trust.
