WHITE RIBBON DAY

OUR NAME. (Women's Christian Temperance Union.) A burly of women united in an earnest desire to hasten the coming of God’> Kingdom on earth, by precept and example, by faith and by prayer. They educate in principle of righteousness and justice to all, and they press fur legislation to banish licensed evils, those stumbling blocks in the way of our weaker brethren and sisters.

OUR MOTTO. (Fur God and Home and Humanity.) lor Cod. —Ever we place God's will and His commands in the forefront of our platform, and as Christian women we set as our standard the Golden Rule of Christ Jesus. Then, as citizens v\e aim to make our land a Christian laud by banishing all licensed evils. While our nation licenses the sale of alcoholic l>oisons, and the machines for Gambling these are national sins. And just as the soul that sinneth shall die, so it is equally true that the nation that sinneth shall die. For Home. —The Christian Home is the best educative force in the world. But alas! owing to modem customs the home is not fulhlling its duty. The Bible has been banished from our school syllabus, and worse than that, it has disappeared from many homes. There are many who can remember its wonderful influence upon the home and its inmates. Our licroes in the past, Ruth, a goo., daughter; Daniel, the man who stood alone against wrong; Esther, the beautiful queen; Josiah, the king who honoured God; and finest of all, the lovely Bain* of Bethlehem, the Teacher and Healer who went altout doing good, Jesus, who from the cross forgave His enemies, gave His life for a world’s salvation,

and rose again triumphant from the tomb. How we loved the name of Jesus, and how we tried to please Him, and as we grew older we realised His promise that He is still with us, unseen but ever present. But alas! the change! Childrut of to-day find their heroes in film lans. Of the heroes of old they know little or nothing, but they can tell howmany times their film favourites have Den married and divorced. Is it any wonder that with such patterns one marriage in every seven crashes and the children of such marriages, lacking home are taken care of by the State. We are glad to know r that the State looks after these neglected onc>, but it cannot take the place of home and a Oiristiatt mother’s influence and example.

Just as white light contains all colours of the spectrum, so the White Ribbon Movement embraces every reform.

The State ''IK.-ikD thou>amU of |*ouud;> in education and then allow s films reeking with Americanisms, so that we knoweven M.A’s. who cannot speak the King’s English, hut reply in the affirmative with “Ye*." For II it inanity. — “Wherever wrong is dune To the meanest and the weakest Beneath the all-beholding sun, That w rong is done to u>. And they are slaves most base, Whose love of right i> for themselves alone, \ud not for all their race.” The world to-day is suffering from neglect of the golden rule.

The W.C.T.U., in less than 00 years, has organised branches in over 50 countries, and in its conferences women of all creeds, colours, and races m:et under Christ’s banner of love.

Think of Japan to-day and place beside that picture one of less than 25 years ago. Madame Tujami, our Japanese President, when over #0 years of age crossed the Pacific Ocean and, escorted by Miss Anna Gordon, our U.S A President, had an interview with President W ilson. She urged him to bring America into the League ot Nations in the interests of World Peace. Had nations then loyally supported the League and in a spirit of love and loyalty to our great idea), were willing to give instead of grabbing all the time, how. different might have been our world of to-day. Forget the past, but remember its lessons. Build a world after the pattern shown by God, and He will then hasten the time when righteousness ‘'hall cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. OUR OFFICIAL ORGAN, In May, 1895, the first copy of the W hite Ribbon was issued and each month this white winged messenger of Peace, Purity, and Abohtion of licensed evils, goes into thousands of ho lies, to many camps and libraries. And in June every branch celebrates W.R. Day, when they consider their paper, send all help to it, and suggestions to help it to Ikcoiiic even more useful and efficient. A happy W.R. Day to all my faithful hdi>crs.
