President’s Letter
Dear White Ribboncrs, Strange tilings are hapfiening to-day. Ilie Liquor Tra<le lias decider! to refonn itself. Whilst advertisements proclaiming the “reform” were scarcely dry on the of the newspaper, two licencees in my city were charged with after hour trading. Now the refonn has taken a new turn. A proposal to open bars between 7.30 and 10 30 p.m. Even moderate drinkers are against this latest “reform/' May God give us grace to go steadily forward n our task of educating the young ai.-l of outlawing the liquor traffic. Watch and pray arid keep pegging away. Disgust ami dismay must fill ihe hearts of all who care, when so many soldiers are «een reeling out of hetei bars quite incapable defending themselves, much less of defending their country, the very men who have l»ecn chosen for the defence of their country. The need to-day is more urgent than ever, that we “defend our defenders” from the deadliest enemy of all, the Liquor Trade. When we know that place after place has fallen localise many were drinking, what about our own land' Is it to l>e sold to satisfy the greed of brewers and drink-sellers? Now for a hit of good cheer. Here i> a letter from a man in the services:— Dear Mrs. Hiett, I‘lca>c convey to all attending the I’raycr Meeting that we in the Services feel that your prayers are being answered by the way God is guiding and protecting those overseas. We know that we are fighting to preserve the freedom of mankind, and that while materials are essential, it is the faith of our forefathers which gives the courage and deter nination to fight the Anti-Christian forces we oppose Those who have given their all have handed on the Torch of Freedom into our keeping, and ours is the -csponsibilitv of ensuring that the world will be won for God when victory is ours. The Master is hearing your prayers ar.d He alone is the One Who will com-
■ —— fort and protect Ua in the days which lie ah “ad. May God protect our people. Such a letter brings cheer to our hearts and is an incentive to keep on praying that all of our men will fight for the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yours in hope, JESSIE HIETT.
