NO LIQUOR ADS. ON THE AIR
Henceforth no liquor advertising will go into Canadian homes by radio. The Canadian broadcasting corporation, governmental authority for the supervision of all radio stations, has so ruled. Private radio stations, however, may advertise heer and wine if local government regulations permit. The “Daily News” has followed consistently the policy of excluding liquor advertising from its columns, although, since repeal, such advertising has been a lawful and lucrative source of revenue. We congratulate the political l>owcrs of the Dominion on adopting a similar sound position in relation to the agencies for publicity under their control. While the United States Government has put no specific ban on promoting liquor sales by radio, the big national broadcasting companies thus far have recognised the wisdom of minimising what would he an offence to millions of Americans. Even the Government’s New Deal mm is not on the air.—Chicago “Daily News." —*r—**—
