Dear Comrades, — While rejoicing in the fine progress lieing made by the Nelson System of Bible lessons, it is not the Bible ill Schools and cannot reach the children in the backblocks, who so often have neither Church r.or Sunday Schools. It behoves us to take up the forward movement to gain 60,000 mem tiers for the Religious Exercises in Schools League whole-heartedly as an organisation. and as members, if we are to convince the M.P’s. that a large number of people desire religious exercises for the children of the Primary Schools. When we remember the Bill was lost by one vote at the two last elections, surely, if we are faithful and do our part, the Bible in Schools I’ail will In* on the Statute Book of V.V.. after the n**xt election. Receipt books for enrolling members, who pay 1/- per year, are obtainable from the Secretaries in each centre, or, if you prefer to apply to me and 1 will procure some for >ou. The Hon. L. M. Isitt lias been in Auckland doing his utmost to promote the forward movement, and has distributed hundreds of receipt Inioks when speaking at the different Churches and meetings. Never in the history of the world was the Bible more needed than at tv?e present time, both from an economic and moral as well as from a religious point of view. Shall we then, dear Sisters, tie faithful in the working of this all important plank in our platform, by earnest prayer —both at the noontide and at other seasons- and by vigorous and sustained effort, which is the only hope of success. When sending your Bible in Schools report, please state how many receipt Inioks and memliers your Union has obtained. BIBLE READING IN SCHOOLS The Nelson system of Bible reading has been adopted in 160 schools in the Auckland district, according to a r« port made by the chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells, at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board recently. Applications received from the committees o' the Kamwhaniwha, Mangatu, and Kio Kio Schools for the introduction of Bible reading were granted.
