DISTRICT CONVENTION.

WANGANUI. The Wanganui District Convention met in Raetihi on September 2nd, in the Druids’ Ha.ll Supper Room, which presented quite an attractive appearance, with a tig bright fire, and decorations of flowers, posters, charts, and the lieautiful W C.T.U. banner. A very warm feelir.g was manifest amongst officers and delegates, making the day a memorable one for all who took part and for all who were present. The attendance in the morning was 25, in the afternoon about 50, and in the evening between 80 and 90. Mrs T. E. Taylor, our Dominion President, was present, and opened Convention with Devotions and a stirring address, and appeal :o all workers to Go Forward. This was followed by roll call, to which seven Unions responded. Mrs Duxfleld, our District President, gave a very fine address, and was highly commended by Mrs Taylor for the clever manner in which she had presented so much information and weighty matter in so short a time. Twenty-two delegates and friends sat down to dinner in Mrs Keuehc’s dining rooms. During the afternoon Mrs Lynn, senr., one of our W.C.T.U. Organisers, gave a most interesting talk on Temperance work from a scientific and medical viewpoint; and Mrs T. E. Taylor followed with another talk, dwelling more on the economic and educatio: al aspect of the subject. Much regret was expressed by Convention in the postponement of the Licensing Poll. Election of officers: Mrs Duxfleld, District President; Mrs Hussey, District Secretary; Miss Sanson, District Treasurer. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to the various hostesses for their kind hospitality. In the evening a public meeting was held, when His Worship the Mayor presided, and welcomed the visitors on liehalf of the citizens of Raetihi. Rev. Nightingale spoke words of welcome for the Presbyterians, Rev. Bennett for the Methodists, Mr Eastman for the Ratal a Church, Ensign Laskey for the Saltation Army, and Mr Sandford for the Alliance. To these weeds of welcome Mrs Taylor and Mrs Duxfleld suitably replied. A musical and elocutionary programme was enjoyed, and Mrs Taylor gave another of her forceful and telling addresses on one phase of our work, namely, Child Welfare. Two beautiful buttonholes were presented by Miss Nancy Crochet to, on behalf of the young folk of Raetihi, one to Mrs T. E. Taylor, and one to Mrs Duxflr Id. A vote of thanks was accorded the .Mayor, and the Doxology and Benediction brought to a close a very happy and helpful Convention. Morning tea was served by the Ohakune ladies, and afternoon tea by the Raetihi ladies. This was much appreciated.
