GIGANTIC STATE LOTTERY.

We were sorry to read that the Karmen’ Union carried a remit that Government be asked to organise a gigantic State Lottery, the proceeds to go to Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards, and so lessen the rates paid by citizens. During the discussion, one member said: “People would gamble and the Government might as well reap the benefit.” If this doctrine be approved. a State can support any evil thing to make money. We would suggest to the Farmers, that they carry Prohibition and so lessen the expenditure on Hospital and Charitable Aid, instead of engaging in questionable methods of raising the income.
