A diiiinman, says the “Christian Advocate." applied for the position of cook in a family of one of our Western cities. The lady of the house and most of th*' family were members of a fashionable church, and they determined to look well after the character of the servants. Bo when John Chinaman appeared at the door, he was a-sked: “Do you drink whisky ” “No.” he said. “T Clistian man.” “Do you play cards?" “No.” said he, "T Clistian man" He was employe'!, and g*ave great satisfaction. He did his work well, was honest, upright, correct, and respectful After some weeks, the lady pave a “propressive euchre” party, and had wines at the table. John Ghinaman was called to serve the party, and did so with prace and acceptability. Rut the next morninp he waited on the lady and said he wished to quit work “Why. what is the matter?” she inquired. John answered: “T Clistian man: T told you so before, no h<*athen. No workee for ’MeliCßn heathen' ’ “Prohibition can be enforced. Stop talkin'? about It. Let your work do your taJkinp for you.
