SUPERINTENDENTS' LETTERS

Dear Sisters, Now that the holiday season is over, it is time we were getting into harness again, as in six or eight months' time we will have the election on us, and as, I understand, vigorous efforts are to be made to bring the election on some months earlier, we must not be caught "napping,” and realising this, we have had printed three new leaflets to add to my list. They are: —"Medical Opinions,” 9d. per dozen or 2/6 per 100; "The Danger of Alcohol in Emergency,” 9d. dozen or 2/6 per 100; and "Is Alcohol a Stimulant?” 6d. dozen or 2/- per 100. Also two new kinds of Post-Cards, inviting women to link up with us. If you would like a sample of them, send 4d., and I’ll send you one of each; they are 1/6 per dozen.

Then, 1 have a splendid lead pencil with rubber on the end. It has "Women’s Christian Temperance Union” printed in silver letters on if, so you should be proud to use one. They are 6d. each, and well worth it. Notice in the literature prices, how much cheaper it is to buy by the hundred than by the dozen; one hundred will soon go in distribution. Keep your eyes on the Literature Column, so you won’t mistake the prices, or miss anything I have. Kindly send money with order. "The tcuch of a hand, the glance of an eye, Or a word exchanged with a passer-by, A glimpse of a face in a crowded street, And afterwards life is incomplete; A picture painted with honest zeal, And we lose the old for the new ideal; A chance remark, or a song’s refrain, And life is never the same again. "A friendly smile. and love’s enibering spark Leaps into flame and illumines the dark; A whispered ’Be brave,’ to our fellow-men, And they pick up the thread of hope again. Thus never an act. or w r ord or thought,

But that with unguessed importance is fraught; For small things build up eternity, And blazcn the way for a destiny.” May God s richest blessing be on all you do. Yours in His sweet service, E. F. CHISHOLM, N.Z. Supt. of Literature. GOOD CITIZENSHIP DEPT. 447 Durham Street, North, Christchurch, Ist March, 1928. Dear Sisters, May 1 remind you that the time fo; the Annual Election of School Committees is drawing near, and that it behoves all our Unions to be "up and doing! ’ Persuade suitable women to offer themselves for nomination, and, at the same time promise them the practical support of every member of your Union at the Householders’ meeting. May we have a record number of women members returned this year! Id. checking the forms sent in from our Dominion Unions in connection with the "Good Citizenship” Department, i have been surprised at the number of Unions who have reported "Nothing doing in this Department,” “Have not worked this Department yet,” etc. I hope that all these Unions will, this year, appoint Superintendents, and work this branch, for it embraces everything that makes for "Good Citizenship,” and ought to be one of our most important Departments. If 1 can be of any assistance to any Union in the way of advice or suggestion, 1 will be very glad. Yours for service, NELLIE BLACKWELL, Superintendent.
