DISTRICT EXECUTIVE.
NORTH CANTERIHJRY. The North Canterbury District Executive met on Wednesday, November 2 3rd. at 10.30 a.m., in the W.C.T.U. Rooms, Manchester Street. Mrs T. E. Taylor presided over representatives from Oxford, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Christchurch. Stvx, Riccarton. Opawa-Woolston. Spreydon, Springston-Lincoln, New Brighton, North Beach. Cashmere and Sydenham.
Miss Anna Gordon, World President, wrote in connection with the Convention to be held at Lucerne next year, asking that delegates be sent, and giving a short sketch of the proposed programme and speakers. Mrs Taylor reported that a Union had been formed at Sheffield, and Mrs Lynn, of Hokitika, had organised Pnions at Reet'ton and Ross.
Reports from the several Pnions showed active work in Bands of Hope and Cradle Roll, successful meetings being held, addresses given by Mrs T. E. Taylor, Miss Harband and others, and children and mothers entertained.
Riccarton reported that letters and literature had been sent to prisoners, also clothing and Christmas Cheer to Addington and Paparoa. Spreydon presented eight prizes for essays on the Evils of Alcohol on the Human System, to the upper standards of the Addington School. A Birthday League had been formed by the Christchurch Union, and other Unions had this under consideration. The proceeds were to be given to one of the Dominion funds, to be decided upon by the Dominion Convention in March. Mrs Taylor explained the present position as regards the Licensing Bill, and urged Unions to organise home meetings w’herever possible, and to distribute Campaign Fund Collecting Cards. Arrangements were made for the **Y.” Organiser to visit North Canterbury early in the year.
