DISTRICT EXECUTIVE MEETINGS.

NORTH CANTERBURY. Mrs T. E. Taylor presided over representatives from Christchurch, Belfast, Lyttelton, Spreydon. Sydenham. Papanui, Rangiora. Templeton, Riccarton, Opawa, North Brighton. New Brighton, South Brighton, and North Brighton Y's. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of tin* late Miss Ruth Atkinson, for many years President of the Nelson Union, and one time Vice-President of the National W.C.T.U. Miss Henderson reported on work done in connection with the Petitions for a Two-Issue Ballot Paper on the West Coast, and proposed that Mrs Lyons, President of the Hokitika Union, be appointed Hon. Organiser for the Coast. Belfast, Lyttelton, Brighton, North Brighton and Templeton, reported increased membership, and Papanui 40 fully paid up members; also a United Band of Hope had been organised, and two well-attended meetings held. North Brighton Y’s. has 20 fully paid up; its first annual meeting is next month. Mrs T. E. Taylor. National President, was invit ed to attend. New Brighton had organised a three months' increased Membership Campaign, and Christchurch had decided to help with the work of the Unemployment Depot., circulars being sent out to all members and friends for gifts of provisions and warm clothing. Miss Blackwell and Mrs Genge had been appointed to take charge of this effort. The President spoke for some time on literature that had been procured, dealing with Alcohol and other important subjects; also pamphlets dealing with the true position regarding Prohibition in America; a quantity was sold to members of the Executive for distribution in the several Unions. Miss B. Harband was appointed to represent the District at the New Zealand Alliance , Vnnual Meeting on Thursday, the 16th inst. Decided to hold the next Executive Meeting on July 6th, when Superintendents of Good Citizenship, Anti-Gambling. and Parliamentary. and Home and Mothers’ Meetings, will be asked to report and speak on these Departments of work.
