A MARVELLOUS DOG.

Perhaps an account of a very clever dog and one or two of his feats may interest some of our young readers. The dog, “Scotty” by name, has rema*rkabl3 intelligence. On one oca • sion his master had be* n lookir.g around his three hundred acre farm, ind when he arrived home he found hi? stock whip gone, having fallen from a s'rap fastened to the side of his saddle. The dog's master said. “Scotty, I have lost my whip.” and he made believe to crac* it. “Away back, Scotty, and find my whip.” The dog hunted all over the farm, and came back after one hour and twenty minutes' absence with the stock-whip in his mcr.*h. The second feat was dr.ring the shoting season This youth’s father was vorking out sawing up a few scattered kauri trees, and had erected a small trill. Two of the bo”8 were out with Scotty pheasant shooting, and the first thing one of tb:m killed was a rabbit. Most of the family not liking mbblts, they thought they would leave It behind. Ore of the hoys, however, said. “What aboul sending Scotty dow’n with it to Dad at the mill.” The distance was about half a mile. So one of the brothers said: “Scotty, take the rabbit down to the mill.” He did so, and cam** back w’agglng hls tail, and started at once hunting for pheasants. One more and this the most remarkable, came under my observation. T was visitinu Maungaturoto. having n son and daughter There, and tw’o sisters. This dog Is owmed by ray sister's son. Ivor Pullen. T had stayed overnight, and went up to the milking shed on the following morning. One son said “Scotty, 1 * you w r ant onv milk take the billy lid to Pad: he may give you some ” Sootty ran to the side of the entrance, got the lid. and went to The hoy's father for milk. He said, “Oh. f*cotty T think Puss would give you more than T: try him.” Away went the dog. and found the four bovs milking He went straight tip to Puss or Harrv. to be correct, and he said “Pring your Wllv lid a bit nearer.” The dog did so. and after receiving and drinking the milk he left fho Bd where he drank, and teas walking awnv. Pu** said “Pome here; take the old Md awnv out of mv road” fkoftv did so. an't took It back where he nicked it tin These facts are exactly ns they

occurred, and can be vouched for by Mr F. Cullen, Chairman of the Maungaturoto Butter Factory.—From the “Eden Gaze.te” for October 16th. 1924.
