But you are aware, dear Mrs Don. that a few days after cur Convention, my dear husband, who was apparently in his usual good health, became suddenly ill, and passed away in a few hours. I had been woiking very strenuously prior to the Convention, and then you know what a busy, exacting time it was for those who have any responsibility, so that I was in a very poor condition to bear such a shock, and have been ill. 1 am glad to tell you. dear Mrs Don, that 1 atn recovering, and taking up my work again. I very much appreciated the sweet letter of tender sympathy sent to me in March by Miss Mary Dowell. Will you be good enough to convey tc the dear friends who sent the messag< my sincere appreciation, and please thank Miss Dowell for her great kindness in writing me in such a loving way. I was < xceedingly sorry, niv dear Mrs i Don, that while you had such a great, great victory, you had not quite sufficient votes to make it sure.
